JOINT COMMITTEE ON SURGICAL TRAINING (JCST)
Chair of Core Surgical Training Committee
On behalf of the 4 Surgical Colleges of the UK and Ireland, the JCST wishes to set up a small, high level intercollegiate committee to oversee and advise on core/early years surgical training. As the first step in the process, we are looking for an exceptional individual to chair this group and to work with the JCST Chairman to finalise its terms of establishment and to set the direction of travel for its future operation. Immediate priorities will include defining the structure of core surgical training and agreeing an approach to quality enhancement, as well as building links with other bodies working in this area.
Those applying for the post should have active or very recent experience as a surgical trainer, working with early years surgical trainees, and be familiar with both the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme (ISCP) and the regulatory framework governing surgical training. We are looking for an individual with a clear vision combined with flexibility, pragmatism and strong leadership and organisational skills.
A job description, person specification and application form for the post are available from Sallie Nicholas, Head of the JCST Secretariat (snicholas@jcst.org tel: 020 7869 6240). The JCST Chairman, Mr Chris Munsch, is also available to discuss the post and can be contacted via the JCST secretariat.
The appointment will be made by an intercollegiate panel chaired by the JCST Chairman. The proposed date for interviews, which will be held at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, is 30 September 2010
Deadline for applications: 1 September 2010
