IMPACT (Ill Medical Patients' Acute Care & Treatment) Course

A two-day course introducing the principles and practice of acute general medical care and the related knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes.  The course provides trainees in Medicine with key point presentations, workshops, “hands on” skills stations, and critically ill patient scenarios to enhance skills needed for dealing with life-threatening medical emergencies.

MRCP PACES TRAINING - GLASGOW COLLEGE

1 May - 31 May 2012

Each series of 5 MRCP PACES Training Evenings will be hosted by experinced PACES examiners in the College, and dates will tie in with each of the three PACES examinations diets. The events will also be video linked to centres throughout the UK and further afield. The aim is to help candidates understand what is required of them in PACES and to assist with their preperations. A "live" demonstration of each of the 5 stations in PACES will be held, over one hour each, in the lecture theatre - using a patient and a candidate with two examiners. Each event will demonstrate:

  • Two examiners determing the important features (signs,  elements of history etc) that the candidate should achieve, setting the standard required to pass, and what might result in failure of each skill at the station - i.e. calibiration.
  • The candidate - patient interaction for each case.
  • Discussion of the candidates performance and the marking of skills.
  • General discussion of the approach to the case, pitfalls and common errors in approach, examination technique or other aspects.

MRCP PART 1 COURSE, GLASGOW

ACUTE NIV FOR PHYSICIANS COURSE

Date: 2012-07-04

This course is aimed at middle grade doctors (FY2/ST1) involved in acute medical receiving.  Patients with COPD are commonly admitted to the hospital with acute exacerbations, occasionally complicated by the development of acute type 2 respiratory failure.  This Course is designed to cover the principles for Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) in these patients and there will be an opportunity to have hands on experience with NIV machines commonly used in the main Glasgow hospitals.
