Specialty Certificate Examinations 

The Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK, in association with the Specialist Societies, has embarked upon a programme to deliver Specialty Certificate Examinations within the new specialist training structure. The aim of these national assessments, which will complement workplace-based assessments, is to ensure that trainees have sufficient knowledge of their specialty to practice safely and competently as consultants.

The examinations are computer-based and are being rolled out from 2008 onwards.  The following specialties are participating in the development of the Specialty Certificate Examinations under the aegis of the MRCP(UK) central office:

• Acute Medicine
• Dermatology
• Endocrinology and Diabetes
• Gastroenterology
• Geriatric Medicine
• Infectious Diseases
• Medical Oncology
• Nephrology (Renal Medicine)
• Neurology
• Palliative Medicine
• Respiratory Medicine
• Rheumatology
