Parts 1, 2 and 3 - January 2004 Regulations

The MRCS examination is an intercollegiate examination run jointly with the other Colleges of Surgeons in Great Britain and Ireland.

Award of the Diploma of Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons indicates that a candidate has enhanced his or her knowledge, understanding, experience and clinical competence well beyond primary qualification level to the standard required to proceed into specialist training.

Examinations held within the UK
The final diet in the UK of the Intercollegiate MRCS Examination is scheduled to be the Part 3 examination to be held in October/November 2010. The final opportunity to attempt Part 2 in the UK for the first time was the April 2007 diet.

Revisions to the examination
The Intercollegiate MRCS examination has been revised to make it appropriate for the new curriculum and the pattern of surgical training introduced in the United Kingdom (UK) from August 2007. This revision was implemented within the UK for first examination in September 2008.  All new UK candidates should visit MRCS, September 2008 Regulations.
