Administrative/Biographical History
Adam Brown Kelly gained his MB CM in 1888 and MD 1904 from Glasgow University and studied further in London, Berlin and Vienna. He became a Fellow of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeon of Glasgow in 1920. He was surgeon to the Ear,Throat and Nose Clinic at the Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow and when his tenure of office ended he was appointed Consulting Surgeon. He produced numerous papers on his speciality and, in conjunction with Donald Paterson of Cardiff, first described Plummer-Vinson syndrome. His son, Herbert Derek Brown Kelly, qualified MB BCh in 1931 and MA, MD 1944 from Cambridge University. He was formerly Surgeon in Charge in the otolaryngology department of the Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow.
