Fellowship with the Royal Colleges is internationally renowned. Here, at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Fellows become part of a 500 year history of Scottish medicine. The College’s geneology includes among many; Peter Lowe, one of Scoltand’s first surgeons and a founder of the College, David Livingstone, William Macewen, and more recently Professor John McVicar, early pioneer of ultrasound and Sir Graham Teasdale, past president of the College and co-inventor of the Glasgow Coma Scale.
We welcome interest in Fellowship from members and non members of senior/consultant standing.
Honorary Fellow Summa Cum Laude*
This is the highest rank of membership of the College. Only those who are highly distinguished in their own right and/or who have achieved the highest distinction and eminence in their profession are confered to Honorary Fellow. Once becoming an Honorary Fellow, s/he is entitled to use the designation letters “FRCPS (Glasg) Summa Cum Laude”.
Fellow Honoris Causa*
This Fellowship is awarded to any individual who is of distinction or eminence in his/her profession, in any special circumstance or on any individual who has rendered outstanding service to the College or wider healthcare community. Once awarded Fellows are entitled to use the designation letters Hon FRCPS(Glasg).
Fellow ad eundem*
This Fellowship is awarded to any physician, surgeon or dentist who is of distinction or eminence in his/her field. Once awarded Fellows are entitled to use the desigantion letters FRCP (Glasg) ad eundem, FRCS (Glasg) ad eundem, and FDS RCPS (Glasg) ad eundem respectively.
How to Apply: * To be admitted to the College as an Honorary Fellow, Fellow Honoris Causa or Fellow ad eundem, an individual must be proposed by a current Fellow of the College, be signed by six Fellows/Members of the College and s/he must concede to the proposal and incorporate a short biography of his/her achievements. Proposals for Honorary Fellowship shall be submitted to the Council for approval.
