Joining The Faculty of Travel Medicine 
 
 

By joining the Faculty of Travel Medicine you become part of an international community that aims to ensure high standards of travel medicine practice throughout the world. As a Fellow or Member of the Faculty, you will be able to access a number of benefits which will support you in developing your professional skills and knowledge in travel medicine. 

You can join the Faculty if you are appropriately qualified and/or an experienced travel medicine practioner, regardless of whether you are a doctor, nurse, or other health professional e.g. pharmacist or public health professional.

To accommodate the field’s multidisciplinary approach, the Faculty offers Fellowship, Membership and Associate Membership. To find out which membership subscription category best suits your current professional standing and how to apply, please view the criteria for each below. 

Fellowship
Any Member of the Faculty of Travel Medicine who, in the opinion of the Council, has made substantial special contributions to the speciality is eligible to be proposed to Fellowship.

How to Apply: To be proposed and if you are being elevated  from Membership to Fellowship,  you will need to submit a completed fellowship application form along with a brief CV and the name of one sponsor. Your sponsor should be a Fellow of the College in good standing. S/he should provide a brief statement in support of your application.

The College Fellowship Committee will also accept proposals for Fellowship on behalf of those who have made very substantial and special contributions to the specialty, and may or may not be already within the Membership of the Faculty.  To be proposed under this category, you will need to submit a completed fellowship application form (click on this link to download) along with a concise CV and the name of two sponsors, one of whom should provide a statement in support of your application. Your sponsors should be Fellows of the College in good standing.

Once in Fellowship, Fellows are entitled to use the designation letters FFTM RCPS(Glasg). Those who are proposed for Fellow (ad eundem) and are successful, are entitled to use the desigantion letters FFTM RCPS(Glasg) ad eundem.

Membership
The standard route to Membership is through passing the MFTM examination and then applying for Membership of the Faculty.  The examination is held early in each calendar year by the College. For further information on the MFTM examination go to Travel Medicine Examinations.

Individuals with a UK Travel Medicine Diploma and in addition a higher qualification such as MSc, MN,MPhil or PhD in a relevant subject are also elgible to apply for Membership. 

Once in membership, Members are entitled to use the designation letters MFTM RCPS(Glasg).

How to Apply: To apply, please submit a completed membership application form (click on this link to download) along with your admission fee, and request for admission by ceremony or in absentia.

Associate Membership
If you hold the Travel Medicine Diploma of the College having successfully completed the course run by Health Protection Scotland or the Diploma in Travel Medicine of Glasgow University, you will automatically be eligible to apply for Associate Membership.

Once in membership, Associate Members are entitled to use the designation letters AFTM RCPS(Glasg).

How to Apply: To apply, please submit a completed associate membership application form along with your admission fee, and request for admission by ceremony or in absentia.  

Affiliate Membership
Affiliate Membership is open to professionals with an interest in travel medicine such as: Practice nurses and GPs, Occupational Health Specialists, Public Health Specialists, Cruise Ship Doctors, Microbiologists, Expedition Medicine Specialists, Migrant Health Specialists, Geographers, and others with an interest in travel.  More information about Affiliate Membership is available here.

How to Apply:  To apply, please submit a completed affiliate membership application form along with your admission fee.
