Congratulations on being appointed to a post in specialist training in a medical specialty.
As a doctor in specialist training you are required to enrol with either the JRCPTB (Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board) or the JCST (Joint Committee on Surgical Training). It may be that you qualify for ‘opting out’ however, you will need to ensure that this is the case by going directly to either the JRCTPB or JCST website for this information. You can do this by following the links below.
Current options for enrolment are as follows:
Option 1 - Combined Payment with Associate in Training Membership and Membership of the College
By becoming an Associate in Training Member or Member of the College you have the benefit of combining your annual membership fee with an annual JRCPTB/JCST fee (£153/£125) as a single annual payment which will be administered for you by the College. This method of payment is tax deductible, allowing you to claim your fee as a professional expense. Should you choose this option you will also have the added benefit of being able to manage your payments. You can make payment by monthly direct debit, by cheque or debit/credit card.

Option 2 - Direct Payment to the JRCPTB or JCST
Choosing this option you will need to make direct payment to either the JRCPTB or JCST. You will be required to make a one off payment up front. For the JRCPTB you will be required to make a one off payment for ST1 and ST2 of £306, followed by a payment of £765 when you advance to ST3. For the JCST you will be required to make upfront payments annually of £125.

JRCPTB
The Joint Royal College of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB) has replaced the Joint Committee on Higher Medical Training (JCHMT). The JRCPTB includes Core Medical Training (CMT), Specialty Training, Acute Care Common Stem (ACCS/M) and FTSTAs. JCST
