RCPSG is committed to working collaboratively with the other surgical and physician colleges in the UK and Ireland.
The information below gives a summary of the intercollegiate structure for surgical, medical, and dental training and a brief overview of RCPSG’s specific roles within the intercollegiate structure.
Surgical Trainees
The Joint Committee in Surgical Training (www.jcst.org) brings together the RCPSG, the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI), the Royal College of Surgeons of England(RCSEng), and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) to form the central training body for post graduate surgical training.
The JCST also hosts the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme (ISCP), which is the online curriculum and assessment programme for surgical trainees. To find out more about the ISCP go to www.iscp.ac.uk
The examination bodies for surgical trainees are the Intercollegiate Surgical Basic Examination (ICBSE) and the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examinations (www.intercollegiate.org.uk) also known as the Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examinations (JCIE).
Registration with the JCST is a requirement for those specialty trainees working towards a CCT in a surgical specialty.
Physician Trainees
The Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB) brings together the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG), the Royal College of Physicians of London (RCPL) and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) to form the central training body for post graduate physician training.
The JRCPTB also holds the responsibility for the development of the curriculum for physician trainees. For more information about the JRCPTB and the development of curriculum for physicians go to www.jrcptb.org.uk
Registration with the JCRPTB is a requirement for those specialty trainees working towards a CCT in a physician specialty. For information on registering with the JCRPTB go to www.jrcptb.org.uk. The examination body for physician trainees is the MRCP(UK) (www.mrcpuk.org). This organisation co-ordinates the development of both the MRCP and Speciality Certificate Examinations.
Dental Trainees
The Joint Committee in Specialist Training in Dentistry brings together the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG), The Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI), the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS Eng), and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCS Ed) together with the Specialist Advisory Committees to form the central training body for postgraduate dental training. The Specialty Membership Examinations Executive (SMEE) is responsible for the development of the Specialty Membership Examinations in Orthodontics, Restorative Dentistry, Oral Surgery and Paediatric Dentistry.
