Gaining independence on the 15th August 1947 meant an end to the British dominance that once existed in India. Despite this, ties with British medicine continue to remain strong. The College’s connection with India is a testament to the enduring friendship between East and West in this discipline, and an acknowledgment of India’s importance in world medicine. 2007 marked India's 60th year as an independent nation. In acknowledgement, this exhibition sets out to commemorate the importance of India in the history of disease and medicine in South Asia as well as its strong links to the Royal College.
The exhibition was mounted in the Lower Library of College by Caroline Torres in 2007. The on-line exhibition was designed by Joharé Hawkins in Februrary 2008.
