Adopt a Book Appeal - the gift of history.
The Library of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow contains the books of some of the most significant authors in medicine dating back more than 500 years. Despite care and attention, the years have taken their toll on the bindings of many of these works and urgent conservation work is now required.
Before and after conservation
Conserving such important texts costs between £150 and £200 a volume and this is where we need your help. Our Adopt a Book Scheme allows you to fund the conservation of the book of your choice. You may like to adopt a book for yourself or on behalf of family or friends as a very personal and unique present.
How it works
Choose a book from the list of works identified for conservation. The cost of conservation is given for each work. Alternatively we can help you choose a suitably needy work from books not on the list. For help in choosing such a work please contact a member of the library staff at library@rcpsg.ac.uk. Once a suitable work has been chosen, and we receive your completed form, the book will be sent off for conservation.
A special bookplate will be pasted to the inside of the slip case of each book conserved with your name on it or the name of the person in whose memory the gift was made. Each individual or group who adopts a book will also receive a certificate acknowledging their generous support.
I would like to help. What do I need to do next?
Print out and complete the Adopt a Book leaflet. Send the completed form together with a cheque or details of payment to:
