The College was incorporated by Royal Charter on 29 November 1599 and ratified by an Act of Parliament on 11 September 1672. Further provisions were made in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow Order Confirmation Act 1962.
As a Registered Charity (SC000847) we operate within the regulations established by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR). As a professional membership organisation our activities are governed by The Royal Charter, our Regulations and Bye-laws.
College Council
Chaired by the President - Professor Jackie Taylor and with over 30 Members, College Council meets 6 times per year with one meeting preceding Annual General Meeting (December). As the ultimate decision-making body, Council has overall control and supervision of all College activities including its finances.
All elected members of Council are Trustees of the College and have a legal responsibility to ensure that, as a charity, we operate in a responsible, competent and appropriate manner.
In addition, we have co-opted members of Council who are actively involved in College life but have no such legal responsibilities.
College Office Bearers, members of Council and many Fellows and Members give generously of their time and expertise to support and advance the College. From education to examinations and membership services, the roles are too numerous to mention. If you would like to contribute to any aspect of College life, we would love to hear from you.
