Editorial

In Memoriam:  Henry Noble

Since the last issue we have suffered the loss of the group's chairman Dr Henry Noble, and this issue is dedicated to the memory of a distinguished dental historian, and great friend and supporter of our activities.  As well as a relatively formal obituary we are publishing a number of personal tributes to this remarkable man.   Sixty-two years in involvement in dental academia from student to research fellow, must be a unique record.  We are unlikely ever to see his like again.  Farewell old friend.

New Editor

We have changed editor again.  Edna Robertson, whose professional skills have been so apparent in the last few issues, has asked to be released from this responsibility so that she can concentrate on her next book.  The group are most grateful to her for her work in this role and wish her well for the new project.  The former consultant editor David McGowan now takes charge and will be glad of help and advice from all concerned, so that the high standard set by his predecessors can be maintained.

Correspondence

The Newsletter is distributed to our supporting members but is also widely read on the internet.  It is therefore a channel of communication amongst a large circle of those with an interest in the history of dentistry.  While we do have an active role in retaining and conserving relevant information about Glasgow and the West of Scotland, items in this , as in all previous issues, demonstrate this wider interest.   We recognise no limits of time or place, only a thematic concentration on matters broadly related to dentistry and dentists.  We plan to continue to attract high quality 'formal' articles but we hope that no one will feel inhibited from using the pages of the Newsletter, and even more so the website, as a platform for less formal speculation, sharing intriguing snippets and seeking information.  It is from such discussions that more detailed studies are stimulated, so please keep those comments and queries coming in.
